Is 2014 the year of survival horror?

Survival horror has been missing for a while, even Resident Evil 6 was more of an action game (according to IGN’s review). Games which were supposed to be “survival horror” became just actions games where you just kill zombies. But this year, it looks like survival horror is coming back.

It started with Outlast, the terrifying game set in an abandoned asylum where your only weapons are a camera with a night vision option and your feet (for running only). With this “no weapons” thing, the term “survival” is back, and with the sudden movements of creepy creatures and people who appear to be dead but they’re not dead yet, the term “horror”” is back!

After Outlast, Daylight is coming this April. In this game, your only weapon is light (through flares, glow sticks and a cell phone which is also your map). Not only this, but the hospital, where you play, changes, so you can’t “remember” your way because it will be different every time you play!

Then, in August comes The Evil Within (represented in the picture), which is, in my opinion, the coolest because it resembles Resident Evil and Silent Hill. It’s set in a haunted mansion (according to the trailer) where strange things have taken place and you kind of go there to investigate.

Dying Light combines survival horror with action. In the morning, you search for supplies, kill regular slow zombies and set traps, that’s the action part, but at night, zombies become faster and are able to climb structures and they will chase you (if they notice you) till they kill you, and that’s the survival horror part. At night, you just run for your life!

I don’t play survival horror ganes because I don’t like being scared and I’m easily scared, but games like The Evil Within, Outlast, Dying Lightand Daylight are worth being terrified for!

Is Assassin’s Creed staying forever?

Assassin’s Creed Unity was announced recently, so now Assassin’s creed is officially an annual game. We all thought that with the ending of Desmond’s story, the franchise will end, too. But we were wrong. After Assassin’s Creed III, came Black Flag, and after it Unity will come. So it wasn’t about Desmond, It’s clearly about what gamers want. We all love Assassin’s Creed and we want one every year and Ubisoft is giving us what we want.

The thing is, are we going to want Assassin’s Creed forever? Or are we going to get bored? And if we want Assaassin’s Creed, will the guys at Ubisoft keep making good ones or will they run out of ideas?

Assassin’s Creed is one of the greatest franchises ever, but AC III wasn’t that good. Connor’s story was lame (and kind of personal), Connor was unlikeable and the setting wasn’t beautiful or fascinating. Gamers were like “Yeah, no more Assassin’s Creed
specially after Desmond died. But Ubisoft saved the franchise with Black Flag with the awesome Edward Kenway, the beautiful setting and the cool pirate theme. So gamers were like “OK, more Assassin’s Creed!!!” So Ubisoft gave them Unity.

Ubisoft‘s vice president of creative Lionel Raynaud recently said that they (Ubisoft) would be very “stupid” if they don’t give gamers Assassin’s Creed every year because “They want Assassin’s Creed every year”. So as long as we want it, Ubisoft will give it to us.

I love Assassin’s Creed and I want it to stay forever and be set in my country one time. But I also want a story and a protagonist (outside the Animus).

If we want Assassin’s Creed to stay forever, then it satys forever. Because….Everything Is Permitted

Thief could have been much better.

Thief (sometimes referred to as Thief 4), which is a reboot of the Thief series, came out this year in February. I learned that fans were disappointed. I didn’t play any of the first three Thief games but I did play the reboot (the fourth) and it could have been much better than this.

First of all, the first-person mode wasn’t comfortable. I’m controlling a thief, I need to see his body, specially with the shadows thing. Controlling Garrett while seeing his body would have made it easier and better.

Another thing is; the freerunning. In Assassin’s Creed, you can climb almost every structure, but in Thief, Garrett the professional thief can’t climb almost every structure! Though, I do admire the swoop ability.

One of the most annoying things was the lack of weapons. This Blackjack isn’t enough. What kind of thief who steals forks doesn’t have a dagger at least. I know that you can finish the game without killing any guard but sometimes the best way to reach some destination requires killing one guard who will detect you and engage in combat. At this point, this Blackjack isn’t useful at all.

The last thing (I can think of now) is Garrett’s terrible voice acting. It’s very flat and lame.

The game is fun with a lot of amazing abilities. The stealth is great. The Focus ability is very helpful. The environment is great. But there are some things that could have made Thief meet the fans’ expectations and even impress them.

If you have the game, don’t give up on it and take good care of it because…What’s yours is mine!

Is a Grand Theft Auto movie a good idea?

Grand Theft Auto (a.k.a. GTA) has been one of the most successful video games out there in the past few years. With the increasing success of the game, some fans now want a GTA movie. But the question is: Is that a good idea?

I mean do we really need another mafia movie? Playing as a criminal is fun; stealing cars, killing cops, and doing whatever you want because you just don’t care! But that’s only cool in a video game, if you watch this, you’ll have a sense of Déjà Vu. There are hundreds of mafia movies and they’re all kind of the same and GTA won’t add anything new.

Fans who asked for a GTA movie would regret it because they thought watching it would be as fun as playing the game, but it isn’t. I’m not saying it will be terrible but it will be repetitive and won’t help the game franchise.

Fans, please, enjoy playing video games but don’t ask for a game movie for every game you play.

Is the best game movie almost here?

Game movies are usually rated (by the game fans) according to two things:
1- How much different the plot is.
2- Casting.

That’s how it always was and always will be. For example, Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time movie wasn’t admired by Prince Of Persia fans because of Jake Gyllenhaal (who was totally different from the Prince) and the different plot. Everyone was like “Why call it The Sands Of Time if you’re not going to use the game’s plot”. Not to mention that what Dastan (a.k.a. the Prince) was wearing in the movie was from Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within game. At the end, we got a good movie but a terrible game movie. If you watch it as if it was just a movie you’d like it, but if you watch it as a movie based on Prince Of Persia you’d hate it!

One of the greatest games out there (I didn’t play it but watching the gameplay was enough) is getting its movie soon, this game is The Last Of Us. The Last Of Us has a great plot, great characters and an amazing environment, so the movie should be great, but is the plot going to be the same? YES! Neil Druckmann said that the movie is a game adaptation, in other words, it will be a re-telling to the story of the game. So The Last Of Us passed the plot stage!

Now what remains is the casting, which shouldn’t be difficult because Joel and Ellie from The Last Of Us are very “clear” characters with crystal clear features and ages. If I had the chance to pick the actors, I would pick either Hugh Jackman or Gerard Butler for the role of Joel, as for the role of Ellie, it has to be Ellen Page and nobody else. Although she’s a bit old for the role but her height and features say otherwise. She’s the one for that role!

The Last Of Us will make a great game movie. I expect it to be the highest grossing game movie of all time!

Why Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be a great movie.

With Captain America: The Winter Soldier releasing soon, I decided to mention some things that will make it a great movie (I hope).

The first thing is the strong chemistry between Captain America and Black Widow (Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson). I don’t know if it’s because of Chris and Scarlett or the characters but I feel like that’s how things should be. Even in the poster, when I see it, I feel like “Yeah! Steve Rogers and Natasha should work together!”. I’m not talking about romance, I’m talking about alliance. I feel like they’re meant to work together!

The second thing is, of course, the villian! Although Captain America: The First Avenger movie was very good, Red Skull’s makeup was kind of cartoony, I mean you’re making a movie, bringing the comic book to life, which means that the villian should be scary, well that makeup didn’t accomplish that. However, this year, The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) really IS a villian! Just from the trailers I started wondering “How the hell will Captain America defeat this?!”. And this time, the makeup and the costume are pretty good (and scary).

The third thing is Captain’s new costume. I think we all agree that Captain America’s costume in The Avengers wasn’t that good. I, personally, prefer the first costume (the one in Captain America: The First Avenger). But the new costume is great! It’s very cool and makes the Captain look serious!

The fourth and last thing is that it’s not set in the 1940s like the first movie. Of course it was necessary to tell Steve Roger’s story from the very beginning, but this 1940s theme was a bit boring. When the events are in the past you feel like “Can’t we just get to the point!!”. Unlike the first movie, Captain America: The Winter Soldier will be set in the present, which will make it more interesting!

These were some things that, I think, will make Captain America: The Winter Soldier a great movie, maybe one of the greatest Marvel movies till now!
